Welcome Marlay the Snowflakes Yowie

Like so many other visitors to our great region, this friendly, fluffy white creature arrived in Stanthorpe seeking his favourite thing in the world… SNOW! During his meeting with our Mayor, she immediately directed the yowie to the Snowflakes in Stanthorpe Committee, whose members have guaranteed plenty of snow during the 2019 Snowflakes in Stanthorpe festival. After a short consideration, and a visit to Stanthorpes newest icon The Big Thermometer to check for SNOW producing temperatures, the deal was sealed. The Yowie realized that Stanthorpe is the coldest town in Queensland, and the ONLY one with a GUARANTEE of snow, so has promised to stay on and become the Snowflakes in Stanthorpe mascot.

Tell us about the yowie..

Here is what the Snowflakes committee know about the yowie. He is friendly and he loves the cold. He is a foodie who loves adventure. He has already been spotted indulging at some of the region’s best producers and it sounds like he plans to visit many more. He is obsessed with SNOW and is going to search all parts of our region to track some down.

Marlay?

How proud Marlay is, to be named after one of Stanthorpes iconic landmarks Mt Marlay. If Stanthorpe has snow, then this high point lookout at 910 m above sea level will be one of the first to be covered in drifts of white powder. It is also the best place in Stanthorpe to view a snowfall with its panoramic views over the town.
